Over the past 2 weeks, Joe Musson has been working with the Production team at Mitrefinch for work experience. Joe took time out of his summer break from sixth form to get some experience before applying to University in Cambridge to study Engineering.
We caught up with Joe to hear how he found his time at Mitrefinch.
What have you been up to over the past couple of weeks at Mitrefinch?
I’ve been working with the Production team to help build the clock and access units. I have been building them from the individual components. After building them they were placed on to the test wall along with other clocks for 48 hours. If there are no issues then they get packed and sent out to customers. I’ve enjoyed putting all the components together and running tests on them to make sure the clocks work correctly. I really enjoyed my time in the Production workshop.
I’ve also spent time with the Automation team and Development team. They explained to me how they programme the website and what their targets are for the future. It was interesting to see how the website and the different Mitrefinch software is built and maintained.
What have you enjoyed most about your time here?
I really enjoyed using tools in Production that I haven’t used before, including the crimping tool. Mitrefinch has a really friendly environment where people all want to do the best they can for the company.
If I had any questions, everyone in the teams I worked with was really helpful. They have years of experience within the company, so I knew any questions I had, they would know the answers to.
Why do you want to work in Production?
I want to work in engineering in the future after completing a masters at University, so a placement in production was a great experience for this.
When I was at a careers event 3 years ago I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I spoke with an engineer and really liked what she had to say about her job. I realised that Mechanical Engineering would fit me well, so I am pursuing that career.
Ideally, I’d like to work in research and development. I enjoy investigating and solving problems and would like to use my skills to solve real world problem that haven’t been addressed before.
